Big Bend National Park patio view

Map of Big Bend National ParkImage via Wikipedia

Big Bend National park is located in the southern part of South West Texas, not too far from New Mexico and just across the Rio Grande river from Mexico.  We went down there to spend our Thanksgiving vacation last year.  We stayed in a house in Lajitas, TX just outside of the park and we were on a hill overlooking the Rio Grande river.  It was so beautiful! We were at walking distance to Lajitas Inn which was great because of their awesome restaurant.  We were so close to the river that you could hear the roosters crow in Mexico. So funny! I took this picture from the back of the house facing the opposite direction.

This is a Texas Longhorn.  I took this picture in Fort Worth, Texas about four years ago.  I think these cows are so beautiful!  They are known for their horns, which can sometimes extend to 120 inches tip to tip for steers. Some horns can even have a slight upward turn at their tips or even a triple twist. They are also well known for their extreme diversified coloring. The Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America serves as the recognized registry for the breed and it can fetch up to $40,000 or more at auction with a record $160,000 for a cow.

Designer fur coats

This is the window display at a fur coat store in New York City. I was walking down the street and came upon it. I like the way they dressed up all those Barbie dolls into different colored fur coats. I loved playing with
Barbie dolls when I was a little girl and this was very cool to me even as an adult. In this picture, the reflection of the buildings onto the pane tells the story. It's a question and answer scene.

One of the fun things to do in Karachi, Pakistan is to go camel riding on the beach. It might surprise you to know that the camel gets up by it's hind legs first and then it's front legs. So, if you are not ready for this, you feel as though you could fall off head first. After the camel is up it is fun to trott along the edge of the water (with a guide of course). Camels are beautiful animals but sometimes they spit. So... it's good to always make sure you are standing on the side of the animal rather than in front. This picture was taken in the winter of 1979.

Making oil in Karachi

I was walking down the street here in Karachi, Pakistan minding my own business and I looked over and saw this man who was also minding his own business. We were both in the middle of a busy market full of people everywhere and lots of noise. There was so much stimulation everywhere that there was no reason for us to notice each other but we did. Karachi has a population of 11 million. It is different from the rest of Pakistan in the same way that New York is different from the rest of the United States. It's culture is characterized by the blending of Middle Eastern, Central Asian, South Asian and Western influences. The pace of life is more hurried and people everywhere are rushing. Time is money and money is life. As I walked, I noticed this man on the sidelines quietly crushing nuts and making oil. Quickly I grabbed my camera and snapped this picture. He was alright with it and so I was happy. I think he was proud of his endeavor. His goal was to fill up all those bottles with oil. You can see underneath there, where the bottles are. He was slowly filling them all up. If you double click on the picture it will blow it up.

The day in the life of a Peruvian taxi cab driver! In the Nasca Peru desert, the presence of over 300 figures and 10,000 lines has been recorded, sketched all over the place and covering an enormous flat, dry area. There are figures of ants, monkeys etc... They are so large that they can only be seen from the air. My friend and I wanted to see them, so we chartered a plane to fly over the area. Like most transportation in Peru, we had to wait a long time for the plane to arrive, so while we were on standby I noticed our taxi driver resting in the backseat of his car and took this picture.

We were up in Cloudcroft New Mexico. The flowers covered the ground and the butterflies were everywhere. My daughter was playing with this one as I snapped away. I actually ended up with a nice sequence of these shots!
